🐾 7 Reasons Labs are Great Dogs 🐾

Labs are a gentle, patient breed, and with the right socialization and training they get along very well with children. They share a similar joy for life, and love playing outdoors.

Since the Labs from Double Yolker Kennels have been socialized with our children from their very first days on Earth, the pup you'll receive will have a great head start in being socialized with kids.

2.  Easy to Train

Labs are intelligent who are looking for a leader. They have been bred to follow human cues, and if they get proper training and attention, they make very well-behaved pets who will respond to many commands!

Did you know that labs are the 7th smartest dog breed, and they know on average 250 words!

3. Happy To Help

Labrador retrievers have a long history of being service dogs. They are often sight dogs, contraband detectors, or service does that help people with day-to-day tasks. Even if you don't need a service dog, these highly trainable dogs will be happy to obey commands and help out with tasks you can train them to do.

Did you know that labs are the breed that has had the most success at being guide dogs worldwide. Guide Dogs of America reports that 70% of their guide dogs are Labs.

4. Your Best Workout Partner

Love to exercise? So does your Labrador retriever. Labs are known to be high-energy dogs that can keep going…and going! If you’re looking for a running partner who willnever back out last minute, you can’t go wrong with a Labrador retriever.

5. Always Ready to Play

Since they were originally bred as hunting/fishing dogs, Labrador retrievers are classified as part of the AKC sporting group, which means they’re willing to retrieve—anything from ducks to Frisbees and tennis balls!

6. The Perfect Size Dog

With males measuring 22-24 inches in height and 60-75 pounds, and females being 21-23 inches and 55-70 pounds, Labrador retrievers are the perfect size for an active family: they're not to big or too small.

If they get the right amount of exercise, Labs do okay in an apartment but they really do best in a home with a medium sized yard.

7. Labs are Healthy Dogs

Generally, Labrador retrievers are a healthy breed. You can expect to share 10-12 happy years with your Lab.

Typical health issues can include hip and knee dysplasia, and eye problems, which are all unfortunately common in most dog breeds as they age.
